We specialize in vintage and historic windows repair and replacement .
One of our current projects, this home requires the replacement of many window frames and a new custom made entry door. Also some interior trim restoration, and new interior sills of white oak and mahogany.
This homes windows are all in this kind of shape shown in the photo. This is a shot of the front sidelites as they were before we rebuilt them.
The finish has weathered and faded, and the wood has rotted on the interior of the sidelite on this once beautiful hand made sidelite.
The after shot, showing a completely rebuilt sidelite and refinished door. We added white oak panels dyed lighter to create a bit of contrast. We have replaced all trim beams with white oak dyed to match the original. We are continuing with white oak columns at the brick mould.
This repair and restoration project involves replacing this entryway with white oak dyed to match the original, the window frames will be re-made at our wood shop. This project is current, the work is still in progress.
In this historic home, all interior storms and screens are being custom made or replaced. This involves molding the unique profile typical of historic homes, a special tongue and groove fitting that eliminated any weather intrusion. This profile is milled in our shop with special cutters, the material is white oak or redwood.
The image is an example of how interior storms and screens were made to fit frames historically. The idea back then was to eliminate the need for precarious ladder climbing on the exterior of the home. These storms and screens were a simple change from season to season from the interior of the home. No rotten weather stripping, no stick on foam to ruin the finish. What a great idea!
Vickery and Sons specializes in creating these historic screen or storm frames to fit any size opening.
